some pictures.

Inside of one of the bags, on its way into the glaze kiln!
Hello! Believe it or not, this bag is ceramic. I am currently making a very large and delicate tornado of ceramic bags that will take place sometime, somewhere in the future. If you are interested in featuring this work in a show at your space or gallery, please email me at katmartin@berkeley.edu. This week has been awesome. I have gotten so much done in the past month, and I feel it is really coming together right now. I only have two weeks left of my six week  ceramics class. These two weeks will be very hectic for me as I complete the two large projects I have set up for myself. I am definitely not slowing down. I have a lot more photos of this project and another one I'm working on, and I need to post them in a presentable way.

I am also considering working real plastic bags into this installation. I can do it!
Here's the pictures. The thumbnails are small 'cause there's a lot of them!

PS I JUST RUINED MY BLOG TEMPLATE. Trying to fix it but my eyes hurt.

Did more stuff today...

But forgot to take pictures!

I am thinking that this is a really good art adventure experiment. If I blog and take photos of my work as I'm doing it, I'll get to see my entire process. I forget a lot about how I do things as I'm working much of the time because I only record it in my sketchbook as lists of things that need to get done on a piece. I accomplished a lot today and yesterday.

Yesterday this girl (I forgot her name, darnit!)  and I made a huge batch of slip. It took a while, we had to add like 120 pounds of ball clay and 80 pounds of talc! That's some heavy stuff then it's in 50 pound increments.
Today I glazed about 9 bags, and a bunch of rings for my tornado. I also further refined my fox head, and made some more slip with paper pulp.

Cell phone photos will come tomorrow.

What needs to be done after that? I have two more bags ready to be bisque fired. I have quite a few tornado rings to paint with many layers of slip so that they are nice and strong. I also need to take photos of this stuff too!

Then I need to make 10-15 more bags. And a lot more tornado rings out of paper. Then paint them, then bisque, then glaze, then glaze fire. Then I've gotta assemble it all, oh, bother!

But tonight, I am working on my tapestry!
I'll take pictures of that too!

Wow, I am busy on art these days. Pretty cool huh? I have 2 more weeks in ceramics after this week. I've done a lot a lot of work so far, and I'm really enjoying everything I've done in Erhen's class

In addition, I've managed to get myself a job at an art supply store (Utrecht Art Supplies) and I finally get to clock in this Friday. I am really excited to be working at an art supply store! I get discounts and I get paid! Plus, being able to use my skills as an artist in an actual job is comforting. I know a hell of a lot about art supplies, but the information was practically useless to anyone but me until now! Man, what a great day!

P.S.-
My previous post has some photos of how some of my work looked yesterday.
